Additional Collector Garima informed the expectant mothers of the importance of breastfeeding for infants

KARIMNAGAR: A mass baby shower (seemantham) ceremony organised by the department of Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) in association with the Lions Club was held at a function hall in Manakondur mandal in Karimnagar district on Saturday (September 3, 2022).

Around 50 expectant mothers from various sections of the mandal participated in the programme. On this occasion, Additional Collector (local bodies) Garima Agarwal slipped the bangles onto the wrists of the pregnant women and also distributed fruits and dry fruits and a new saree was presented as a gift.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms Agarwal gave tips to pregnant women to be happy and stress-free for the delivery of healthy babies. One should be healthy, both mentally and physically, and visit the doctor for periodical checkups to detect abnormalities during the early stage and to prevent child mortality, she stated. She informed them to deliver only in the government hospital to avail the benefits of KCR kits.

Educating the womenfolk about the importance of breastfeeding, she said that the mothers should give breast milk to children for at least two years. She also stressed on the need for regular health check of adolescent girls to check for anaemia.

District Welfare Officer K Sabitha said that all pregnant women should register with the Anganwadi centres. She explained the importance of taking a nutritious diet during pregnancy so the women are strong enough to deliver healthy babies. The pregnant were given awareness of pregnancy care and weight monitoring of both the mother and foetus. They were also empowered by the welfare schemes launched by the government including Poshan Abhiyan scheme.

ZP CEO Ch Priyanka, trainee collector Lenin, SUDA chairman G Ramakrishna Rao, ZPTC Shekhar Goud, MPP M Sulochana, MPTC Kavitha, MPDO Divyadarshan Rao, MRO Krishna Reddy, medical officer Vineetha, ACDPOs Saraswathi and Aravinda, ICDS supervisors Venkatalaxmi, Rajasri, Indira Srilatha, Israth, Poshan Abhiyan team and others were also present.
